Authorities
Intrastate Authority
For those who pick up & deliver loads within a state.
Exempt Registration
You are not required to have interstate authority if you haul exempt commodities (livestock, logs, bulk grain, etc) but some states require you to register as a carrier and charge a small fee.
Private Carrier
If you haul your own goods, and are not for hire, you do not have to have interstate authority but some states require you to register as a carrier and charge a small fee as with Exempt Commodities.
Broker Authority
You have the freight from your customers but want other companies to haul it for you using their authority then you will need Brokerage Authority.
